was made popular in England in the early

nineteenth century by the Duchess of Bedford

after she reportedly suffered from “a sinking feeling”

later in the afternoon.

She initially took tea with a light snack in her rooms

and then began sending out formal invitations

asking guests to join her for “tea and walking in the

fields,” serving them small cakes, sandwiches, a

selection of sweets and of course, tea.

So why not avoid that sinking feeling and join us at

time&tide for an afternoon of indulgence in luxurious
